If you’re planning a vacation to the beautiful island of Kauai, congratulations! You’re sure to have the time of your life and return home with memories that will last a lifetime. There are all types of vacations you can enjoy on Kauai; all inclusive packages, adventure travel, luxury vacations ,vacation rentals, you can even camp there if you really want to do it on the cheap. On my last visit to Kauai, I decided to mix and match. In other words I combined the vacation rental experience with the luxury resort experience all into one glorious Kauai Travel package.

First I took my family to the North Shore, near Ha’ena, where we enjoyed 3 nights in an incredible vacation rental. This was a private home up in the rainforest of Kauai, while at the same time only minutes from the best beaches on the north shore. This offered us a feel for the beautiful terrain and jungles of Kauai. There were several beautiful rivers and streams that ran right through the property and it was a welcome place to return to after a day of snorkeling or sightseeing.

One of the advantages of having a vacation rental, was that we could save a bit of money by shopping for our own food and cooking meals back at the house. We had a lot of fun going into Hanalei and exploring some of the local markets to find food for our meals. We picked up some delicious organic pineapples and avocados, as well as some staples to make some easy meals back at the house. We also found some delicious locally grown Kauai Peaberry coffee that we were able to grind and brew back at the house. This part of our vacation was spectacular as we really got a feel for the north shore of Kauai and the Hanalei area.

For the second part of our vacation, I booked 4 nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa in Poipu. This is a 4-Star Luxury Hotel, so it was quite a change from the vacation rental we were in for the previous 3 nights.

The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is an amazing family resort. The grounds are enormous and beautifully appointed. Among the highlights of this property are its many lagoons snaking throughout the grounds. You can swim or float in all of these lagoons, both fresh-water and salt-water. There are several top notch restaurants as well as more standard poolside burgers and pizza type fare. My kids spent most of their time going down the amazing waterslide that spills out into tone of the lagoons. It was an incredible 4 days we spent at the Hyatt.

In the end we really got the best of both worlds in this vacation. My family was able to get a feel for the daily life and rainforest surroundings of the north shore of Kauai and the Hanalei area and then we treated ourselves to 4 nights of resort luxury in Poipu at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. Not too shabby if you ask me!
